The organizations implementing the Study in Peru are the Analysis Group for Development, GRADE (www.grade.org.pe) and the Nutritional Research Institute, IIN (www.iin.sld.pe).
GRADE is responsible for leading the study, particularly entering and updating information in the databases, carrying out quantitative and qualitative studies, and overseeing the project’s communications component. The IIN is responsible for field work involving surveys of the children and their families, as well as health and nutrition studies and overall Study management.
GRADE, which was founded in 1980, is a pluralistic research center whose investigators seek opportunities to discuss ideas and results of studies that can help set the national public policy agenda in various areas.
The IIN, which was founded in 1971, is a private, non-profit institution devoted to health and nutrition research, teaching, training and services. Its main focus is the health and nutrition of low-income Peruvians.
Dr. Jo Boyden of Oxford University (www.qeh.ox.ac.uk/centres/yl) is international coordinator of the study. Stefan Dercon (Oxford University) and Martin Woodhead (Open University) are also academic collaborators, while Save the Children UK (www.savethechildren.org.uk) is collaborating on communications and policy analysis. The research team consists of anthropologists, communications professionals, economists, statisticians, pediatricians and other health care professionals, psychologists and sociologists from the four countries involved in the Study.
